Avis (10)
Great title, good first and last chapters, skim the middle...
I give this book a 3 star rating because I simultaneously want to give it a one star for being long and repetitive, and 5 because I keep referencing it when I talk to people about working in corporate environments.
Essential therapy for radicals scarred by school and the workplace!
And by "radicals" I mean those wild eyed crazies who believe in democracy and basic human rights!
Every self proclaimed "educated" person must read
Book severely criticizes the graduate programs, government institutions etc and makes you rethink how willingly we obey especially when we are the most educated..
Five Stars
Wonderful.
90% Great. Last 10% insane, unless you want to become a professional unemployed radical troublemaker.
The first 90% of this book was very enlightening.
A wonderful revolutionary manual for the workplace
Schmidt shows how professional training in any field gives a strong impetus to creating people who carry the philosophy of the system unquestioningly and who unintentionally become political forces for the status quo.
The first step to fixing it is to admit we have a problem
Some of the less-than-five-star reviewers seem to have not put a lot of thought into the implications of Jeff's book here.
Great book, great condition
This is a great book if you are considering graduate or professional school.
There are worse ways of spending your time, but not many
Warning - this is going to be one helluva disjointed review.
Insightful, Incendiary Critique of the Professional Class
I just finished Jeff Schmidt's book about salaried professionals.
