A finely played, convincing, meticulous but slightly reserved alternative to other established, more emotionally overt versions
This set of performances, well recorded with realistic balances in 2009 and 2010, delivers an interesting alternative view to those put forward by Ashkenazy, Previn and Svetlanov to name but three of the strongest alternative options.
A Fine Performance
I have not had a recording of the Rachmaninov Third Symphony for a few years and after reading the reviews at Amazon, decided on the Petrenko.
Good Job
I really love Rachmaninov's 3rd and this is very well played.
Very good, amid strong competition
This recording is good.
Lucky Liverpudlians
I can't say I was unprepared for the splendour and success of this recording, having been bowled over by Petrenko's \"Isle of the Dead\" and impressed by the Piano Concertos.
A Rachmaninov Third almost beyond praise
In a way there is something new but something old about this recording, in that EMI once recorded regional British orchestras from Bournemouth, Manchester, and Liverpool under conductors like Silvestri, Handley, and Barbirolli.
