I guess they weren't kidding when they found out about the 'Gilded Age': this book takes the subject to a whole new level nearly scorching the pot and providing a clear and detailed history of how the emergence of oligarchy in the wake of the Civil War produced an unexpected new cancerated form of the American Dream hiding the nightmare of the Rockerfellers/Canegies and their successors, the banks, trusts, and political connections that have consistently come in tandem with and to serve the 'birth of the imperial America'.
